Rising Against the Odds: My Journey as a Self-Funded CSE Student
My Journey as a Self-Funded CSE Student
As a CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) student, my classes began on November 17, 2024, at Southeast University. I chose this university primarily because of its affordability, estimating that it will cost me approximately 7 lakh BDT to complete my studies. However, the journey to get here has been far from easy.
Life took a difficult turn when I lost my father during my childhood; I was in class 5. Since then, my mother has been my sole support system, my world and my greatest asset. She has sacrificed so much for me, and it is her unwavering strength and determination that have brought me to where I am today.
Currently, I am standing on my own two feet, financing my education without relying on my family. How could I, when my mother is managing our one-handed household with limited resources? Over the last three to four years, I have been earning a little through my knowledge and skills. It hasn’t been a steady income, there were months when I earned nothing and others when I managed 5,000-10,000 BDT. Despite this inconsistency, I have kept pushing forward.
Savings have been hard to come by, and life in these circumstances is undeniably tough. But I am content and deeply grateful to God for His guidance and blessings. Without His help, I wouldn't be here today, pursuing my dreams.
Every step in this journey reminds me of my mother’s sacrifices and the grace of God that keeps me moving forward, no matter how rough the path may be.
Until next time,
Tasfiq Tareq
